Chinese nationals patenting aboard soars in first half

Latest numbers from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), European Patent Office (EPO) and Japan Patent Office (JPO) reveal, patenting activities (invention only) from China with these leading patent authorities grew significantly the first half of 2010.
From January to June of this year, Chinese nationals filed 3,063 applications to USPTO, up 31.7%; 1,010 to EPO, up 32%; 506 to JPO, up 16.9%. The growth rates for all applications in USPTO, EPO and JPO were up 4.2%, 1.3% and -3%.
In the same period, as a destination country, China received 12,803 applications from the U.S., up 15.6%; 14,263 from Europe, up 11.3%; 16,587 from Japan, up 4%.  The absolute numbers still outpaced the above outbound Chinese applications 4 times, 14 times and 33 times respectively.
